Rolled oats

Below are some interesting handy hints and ingenious ways to utilise rolled oats.
Salad Sprinkle
Zest up your green salad, sprinkle toasted oats. In pan heat oats, crushed garlic and a little olive oil until oats and garlic are brown. Cool and keep in an air tight jar. Garnish salad dishes with this healthy alternative to roasted nuts.
Fry onion, add mince, add boiling water, stock and then to thicken add some porridge oats (oatmeal). These oats absorb the flavours of the gravy and take on the same consistency of the meat, also adding an interesting nutty taste. It also reduces the amount of meat required.
Alternative to bread crumbs

Meatloaf, add one or more of the following - rolled oats, rice, couscous, shredded carrots, hard boiled eggs...

Oat coffee
Make rolled oats in to a porridge and bake until brown, pulverise into a dry fine powder then mix with hot water and serve as a drink to help with any form of nausea.
Skin soother
To make a soothing bath for your skin, place rolled oats tied in muslin or cloth and place under the hot water in a bath. Squeeze the oat bag to release the oatmilk into the water. Oats may sooth skin irritations such as mosquito bites.
Arthritic pain in your hands
Mix 2 cups of rolled oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief.
Winter treat for your pony
An excellent winter treat for your horse, pony or donkey is to mix up a batch of oatmeal and add some apple sauce and a little cinnamon. It contains everything your horse loves and warms them from the inside out.
