In 1867, a steam powered flour mill was erected on the present site at Green Island near Dunedin and this was the beginning of the Company as it is today - Harraway & Sons Ltd.
Mr Henry Harraway, in 1893, installed an oat roller milling plant and this heralded the commencement of breakfast cereal production for Harraways. In the first year over 1000 tons of oats were manufactured. Henry and 10 of his sons, out of a total of 21 children, also made up their own cricket team.
Over many years, the Company has increased its production capability with the addition of new plant and the purchase of numerous complimentary businesses.
Today, Harraway & Sons Ltd is a significant supplier to the New Zealand market and the Company now specialises in both traditional and added value breakfast cereal products with a wide range of specialty grain products including oat, rye, barley and wheat flakes. The latter being used in both breakfast cereal muesli and muesli bars.
The Company has recently extended its production facility to meet the growing demand for its product range and as a proudly owned and privately operated business; this is a true commitment to Harraways growing number of valued customers.
